RCT (root canal treatment) is an Endodontic procedure, which is necessary to do it when there is a large cavity or the tooth root is damaged. The pulp has become infected or inflamed. The dentist will open the teeth and remove caries and, open the pulp chamber, and clean the canals of the teeth.

There comes the question: why do i need a Root canal therapy?

Because tooth will not heal by itself and because the infection spreads all around the tooth causing inflammation of the bone and the supporting tissues. This may cause serious damage to the pulp and result in inflammation and pain and it may cause the tooth to fall out.

So that is why root canal treatment is done to save the damaged pulp by thorough cleaning and shaping of the root canal system and then filling it with Gutta-percha. The tooth is permanently restored with a crown with or with the post and a filling.

What is root canal procedure?

Once the endodontic therapy is recommended, your endodontist will numb the area by injecting the local anesthetic. After this, a rubber mask is placed around the tooth to isolate it. Then the opening is made in the crown of the tooth and very small instruments are used to remove the pulp from pulp chamber and root canals. After thorough cleaning and shaping of the root canals, they are filled with the rubber like material called Gutta-percha, which will prevent the bacteria from entering this space again, and after completion of endodontic therapy, the dentist places the crown or other restoration to restore the tooth to full function.
